The School of Public Health (SPH) operates as an interdisciplinary, research-driven department that collaborates with community partners to enhance population health through leadership, academic excellence, investigation, and service. Our goal is to improve quality of life and serve the greater good, with particular emphasis on urban environments and worldwide communities. SPH fulfills this purpose by leveraging Georgia State University's academic resources to address critical public health challenges, specifically those targeting health inequities in metropolitan areas.
Our educational and research initiatives concentrate on both developing the scientific foundations of public health and implementing proven strategies to enhance community wellbeing. Curriculum and training prioritize fundamental prevention disciplines (including emerging infections, immunological studies, viral research, computational biology, genetic sciences, and spatial analysis) alongside practical public health applications (such as non-communicable disease control, wellness initiatives, environmental protection, program assessment, health governance, medical ethics and regulations, health messaging, community-engaged research, and international health).
Prospective students must satisfy all institutional and collegiate undergraduate admission criteria. The School of Public Health maintains more rigorous entry standards than Georgia State University's general requirements. Once applicants meet all specified conditions, they transition from pre-public health status to full public health majors within SPH, gaining authorization to enroll in core public health coursework.
