Georgia State's Bachelor of Music program with a Composition concentration provides tailored mentorship and hands-on training. Students learn from renowned visiting artists such as Eric Whitacre, George Lewis, Caroline Shaw, John Luther Adams, and the Grammy-winning group Roomful of Teeth.
The curriculum includes practical collaborations like film scoring projects, exemplified by a recent partnership with the School of Film, Media, and Theater (FMT). This well-rounded program prepares graduates for advanced composition studies, professional work, and educational roles through expert faculty support and motivational guest presentations. Admission requires demonstrated theory and ear training competence, submission of original compositions with audio samples, and successful completion of an entrance evaluation.
Prospective students can begin building their portfolio through the Composition Seminar, available to first and second-year undergraduates after completing Theory I and Aural Skills I prerequisites.
