The Textiles program encourages individual artistic discovery, technical mastery across diverse methods, and polished professional display. Textiles is examined through both historical and modern lenses, highlighting the discipline's enduring significance and wide-ranging uses. Graduates from the Textiles B.F.A. program have pursued successful paths in fine arts, textile manufacturing, film production, and advanced academic research.
After admission to the program, Textiles students start with fundamental design classes that establish skills in surface decoration and basic sewing techniques. As they progress, students expand their technical abilities by mastering both traditional and digital approaches to quilting, embroidery, fabric pattern creation, and textile printing. The curriculum also covers soft sculpture techniques, manual and mechanical tufting methods, various weaving styles (both on and off the loom), and other adaptable fabric constructions.
