Sociology examines human societies, focusing on identities, cultures, and social systems, with special attention to the power relations shaping social structures and relationships. This field employs empirical evidence and theoretical frameworks to investigate the origins, mechanisms, and effects of social beliefs, actions, institutional narratives, and organizational behaviors. Our undergraduate curriculum encourages critical examination of subjects including racial and ethnic studies, gender and sexuality, urban development, healthcare, economic disparity, social norms, systemic inequities, and social movements. Alumni from our program pursue diverse professional paths in research, data interpretation, counseling, legal and policy work, communications, social services, education, community development, and personnel management.
