People naturally belong to various social circles throughout their lives. Whether it's your neighborhood, cultural background, faith community, job, sports team, or relatives - these all represent different groups you may be part of. UWM's Sociology program provides students with deeper insights into these collectives and their members. The curriculum examines societal influences on human actions, covering diverse subjects like activist movements, demographic changes, residential trends, racial discrimination, gender disparities, judicial processes, healthcare systems, criminal behavior, family dynamics, sexual identity, corporate structures, culinary traditions, and beyond.
Sociology majors at UWM enjoy flexible program options. While completing required foundational courses, students can select from numerous electives to either explore various disciplines or concentrate on specific areas of passion. Alumni are recognized for their comprehensive understanding of sociological concepts along with valuable technical abilities. As a data-driven social science, Sociology employs research, statistics, and evidence to develop theories. UWM Sociology students master processing, evaluating, and interpreting complex information systematically using modern digital tools - a capability that makes them stand out to data-dependent employers across private and public sectors.
