Political science examines the allocation of resources, benefits, and principles within societies and organizations, focusing on who receives them, when, and through what processes. This field analyzes the factors influencing these distributions, covering areas such as electoral systems, civic attitudes, advocacy organizations, government agencies, legal frameworks, global diplomacy, international institutions, national defense, federal-state relations, citizen participation, philosophical foundations, cross-national comparisons, governance strategies, and dispute resolution.
Learners can focus their studies on one of five core areas: U.S. political systems, cross-national political analysis, global relations, philosophical traditions, or policy development and implementation. The program offers tailored tracks for those pursuing legal studies or global engagement. Academic competitions like simulated court proceedings, UN assemblies, and Arab League conferences are organized through the department. Student organizations and honor societies are available for those interested in legal careers, global studies, or political scholarship. Pre-law guidance is also provided by the department.
