The dual objectives of ecological conservation and sustainable energy present some of today's most urgent global and national challenges. Our heavy reliance on fossil fuels has created issues with energy security, fairness, and environmental degradation, while also contributing significantly to climate instability. The scientific community overwhelmingly concurs that climate change is occurring and that fossil fuel consumption is its primary driver. While technological solutions to these energy and environmental issues largely exist, their implementation requires smarter policy frameworks. This program examines how tailored policy designs can overcome socio-technical obstacles to cleaner technologies, using real-world examples and economic assessments. Given the inherent uncertainties in energy and climate policy, static solutions prove inadequate - governance strategies must continuously integrate evolving insights about environmental factors, energy sources, technological advancements, and societal dynamics.
