Doctoral candidates in the Ph.D. program typically qualify for a Master of Arts in Political Science after three terms. This requires finishing 32 graduate credit hours while maintaining a 3.0 GPA across all coursework, along with submitting a master's thesis. The MA program mandates completion of eight graduate courses (totaling 32 semester hours), with two credits allocated for thesis writing (PS 599). Among these, six courses must be 500-level classes and six must focus on Political Science. Students must also submit a research paper approved by their faculty advisor. MA candidates need to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Typically, Ph.D. students earn their MA degree by their second year upon fulfilling all necessary requirements.
