Neuroengineering is a specialized branch of biomedical engineering that applies engineering methods to study, repair, improve, or utilize neural system functions. Professionals in this field possess distinctive skills to address challenges where biological neural networks intersect with artificial systems. Key objectives involve restoring and enhancing human capabilities through direct communication between the nervous system and technological devices.

Contemporary studies primarily investigate how sensory and motor systems encode and process information, examine changes in these processes during disease, and explore ways to modify them through artificial interfaces like brain-computer systems and neural prostheses.
