The Condensed Matter Physics (CMP) initiative serves as a vital research pillar within the School. Recognized for its doctoral output, external accolades, and grant acquisition, the CMP team has significantly contributed to the School's prestige. U.S. News and World Report ranked it 18th nationally. Historically, the group's expertise centered on creating and analyzing distinctive nanostructured materials, though recent focus has transitioned toward quantum materials like next-gen epitaxial graphene, topological insulators/semimetals, and quantum spin liquids. The CMP maintains active partnerships across multiple Institute departments, spanning Chemistry & Biochemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, and Electrical and Computer Engineering.
