The Systems Group within the School of Computer Science focuses on investigating intricate computer software and hardware systems, encompassing their creation, implementation, and the foundational design principles. The faculty's expertise spans diverse fields such as Internet computing, distributed systems, operating systems, high-performance computing, real-time and embedded systems, along with mobile computing platforms and applications. Research areas involve practical performance assessment, computer security and reliability, system administration and virtualization, distributed computing architectures, and large-scale data systems and methodologies. Our team comprises academic and research faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, as well as visiting scholars. We emphasize cross-disciplinary collaboration, partnering not only with fellow College of Computing departments but also with various units across Georgia Tech, especially the College of Engineering. Additionally, we maintain strong ties with academic institutions worldwide, government laboratory researchers, and industry partners engaged in R&D initiatives. Our global partnerships unite experts from numerous nations. We assess our research through practical applications across multiple sectors, including cloud and enterprise computing, high-performance systems, mobile and wireless technologies, multimedia and sensor networks, embedded and real-time solutions, pervasive computing, and service computing—with applications extending to healthcare. Our testing infrastructure includes multiple computing clusters with thousands of processor cores down to compact embedded devices.
