The program aims to equip graduates with the skills to emerge as pioneering researchers in their disciplines. A key advantage of the School of Building Construction's graduate studies is students' access to resources across all College of Design programs (including Architecture, Building Construction, City Planning, and Industrial Design) as well as other Institute departments.
Alumni commonly secure roles in diverse research-focused institutions or companies, such as academic institutions, government bodies at various levels, R&D firms, and private sector organizations.
The Ph.D. program provides an opportunity for highly motivated students with strong research aptitudes to pursue specialized studies in building construction.
Participants complete tailored coursework to build expertise in their selected research domain, ultimately producing a written dissertation.
This dissertation serves as proof of the candidate's innovative thinking, research proficiency, methodological competence in their specialization, and capacity to effectively communicate their discoveries.
Students must have a master’s degree from an accredited university to be considered for admission to the Ph.D. program; graduate-level training should be in architecture (i.e., MS, M. Arch), building construction (i.e., MSBC), civil engineering (i.e., MSCE), or a related field (i.e., facility management, project management) which demonstrates they have knowledge in fundamentals of building construction/science, design/planning, operations/management and/or engineering principles.
