The mechanical engineering undergraduate program offers a comprehensive and adaptable curriculum. It includes a foundational ME core, a design and professional practice component, and 15 credit hours of free electives. This structure equips students to become effective problem solvers, ready to enter diverse industries or pursue advanced graduate studies. The ME program places significant focus on design innovation, creativity, and experiential, hands-on education. To accommodate the broad career paths available to mechanical engineers, the curriculum integrates subjects like electronics, materials science, computer programming, and manufacturing. The ample free elective credits enable students to obtain minors and certificates from across the Institute or to concentrate on specific ME specializations. This flexibility also supports participation in various special opportunities, such as co-op programs, internships, study abroad, and undergraduate research.
