Georgetown's Linguistics Department focuses on exploring various linguistic aspects through multiple research approaches. We investigate language by studying its structure, how it's learned, its usage in different contexts, and through computer-based analysis. Recognizing that each research perspective offers valuable insights and that no single approach can answer all linguistic questions, we maintain an inclusive environment that embraces diverse methodologies. Our Master of Science program enables students to specialize in particular linguistic areas, enhancing their abilities while discovering fresh perspectives. Candidates pursue one of four specializations: Applied Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, or Theoretical Linguistics.
