Gain expertise in the scientific analysis of language and its framework while examining how communication and discourse adapt alongside technological advancements. The University of North Texas' Master of Arts in Linguistics (General degree) provides comprehensive instruction across all fundamental aspects of the field. Our MA curriculum equips graduates for demanding professional paths in diverse sectors such as public service, academia, legal professions, linguistic preservation, descriptive linguistics, digital language repositories, and artificial intelligence applications. This program also establishes a strong basis for pursuing PhD-level research in linguistics or related language domains including speech therapy, special education for the hearing impaired, hearing science, computer-assisted linguistics, or English language instruction for non-native speakers.
The Linguistics Department works hand-in-hand with Library Science, Educational Technology, and Computer Science departments to foster a cooperative setting for creating progressive academic programs. These integrate linguistic investigation with information system architecture, textual data analysis, computational linguistics techniques, and AI-driven language processing. We envision a Linguistics Initiative with global collaborators specializing in English language education and digital conservation, storage, and distribution of linguistic resources.
