At Georgetown Law, your legal education involves observing the law in practice at the highest national levels. Our J.D. students gain the skills to thrive in diverse areas of domestic and global law, unlocking endless career possibilities in both public service and private sector practice.
The full-time J.D. program at Georgetown Law spans six semesters (three academic years), with most classes scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Upper-level students can also enroll in evening and weekend courses. The first-year curriculum establishes a strong foundation for advanced studies by covering fundamental legal principles while honing critical thinking, research, and writing abilities essential for legal professionals. Students complete 30 credits of mandatory courses and may opt for an additional one-credit simulation course during Week One in early January. Classroom learning is enhanced by 1L 101, a faculty-led workshop series covering case analysis, material synthesis, and exam preparation strategies.
