The Philosophy Department provides academic programs culminating in a Ph.D. in philosophy, as well as dual-degree options combining philosophy with law (J.D.) or medicine (M.D.) at both doctoral and master's levels.
Our graduate curricula embody our department's diverse perspective, embracing both historical and modern philosophical methods alongside publicly engaged philosophical practice. We excel in multiple areas including ethical theory and applied ethics (particularly bioethics), political philosophy, language philosophy, knowledge theory, modern European thought, and Catholic philosophical heritage. Faculty members also pursue specialized research in feminist philosophy, gender studies, moral psychology, collective knowledge systems, disability research, race theory, science-society intersections, and legal philosophy.
We dedicate ourselves to equipping graduate students for advanced philosophical research, professional development, independent and collaborative scholarship, and teaching mastery. Our training extends beyond traditional academia, preparing graduates for roles as ethics specialists and alternative academic careers that apply philosophical expertise in practical settings.
