The graduate program cultivates students' analytical skills, intellectual curiosity (engaging with diverse perspectives, theories, and methodologies), and deep expertise in either literary/cultural studies or German as a second language acquisition (G/SLA). Comprehensive knowledge, as defined by the Department, involves synthesizing texts and concepts across different historical eras and theoretical frameworks at an advanced level. With personalized guidance and substantial year-round funding, completing the PhD within five years becomes both an attractive goal and a practical reality. Additional program highlights include: specialized support for non-native German speakers to achieve fluency, academic exchange opportunities with Trier and Dresden Universities, and substantial funding for conference presentations.
