The Physics Department provides two distinct programs: a standard Physics major and a Biological Physics major. Both programs offer the option to earn either a B.S. or A.B. degree. The B.S. in Physics caters to students with diverse career aspirations, particularly those aiming for graduate studies or professional roles in physics and related scientific or technological fields. The B.S. in Biological Physics equips students for advanced studies or careers in biophysics, biomedical sciences, or bioengineering. The A.B. programs in Physics and Biological Physics are tailored for students pursuing graduate education or non-scientific careers in medicine, law, business, journalism, government, or K-12 education. These A.B. programs also provide more flexibility for students wishing to combine with a second major. Additionally, students may pursue a Physics minor.
For the B.S. Physics major, students must complete at least seven upper-level courses beyond the introductory sequence, while the A.B. Physics major requires five. The B.S. Biological Physics major mandates five advanced Physics courses plus four supplementary science courses after the core sequence, whereas the A.B. Biological Physics major calls for three advanced Physics courses and four corollary science courses in addition to the foundational curriculum.
