The Regional and Comparative Studies (RCST) major enables students to concentrate on in-depth examination of either one specific world region (Regional Studies) or two distinct areas (Comparative Studies). The available regions include Africa, Asia, Western Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Russia/Eurasia/Eastern Europe, the United States (comparative only), and Australia/New Zealand/the Pacific (comparative only). Specializing in one or two geographic areas offers unique societal perspectives unattainable through broader studies. By immersing themselves in regional languages and cultures, students develop specialized knowledge essential in our interconnected world. This concentrated approach reveals important distinctions and connections both within and across regions. Through focused study of global areas, students transform into knowledgeable global citizens capable of analyzing the decisions and developments within their chosen regions.
