The Middle East studies program equips students to analyze the complex factors influencing this vibrant area through examining religion, governance, economics, traditions, historical developments, and physical landscapes. Alongside their specialized coursework, Elliott School undergraduates must fulfill standard Bachelor of Arts prerequisites. This concentration shares the interdisciplinary foundation of the international affairs curriculum while emphasizing Middle Eastern-specific subjects. Graduates emerge with working knowledge of a regional language and fundamental analytical frameworks for interpreting both historical contexts and current affairs. The program strongly recommends immersive Middle Eastern study experiences, either through GW's established university exchanges or independently arranged overseas study initiatives.
