The Social Justice and Human Rights (SJHR) specialization within the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies program offers adaptable coursework that lets you concentrate on the causes you're most passionate about. This curriculum establishes a strong theoretical framework for examining the social, political, cultural, historical, and economic dimensions of various injustices and human rights concerns. Taking a worldwide, intersectional perspective, it encourages students to develop and implement approaches for building a fairer, more just, and compassionate society.
Participants include both new graduates and established professionals. They investigate and advocate for matters like racial equity, environmental protection, anti-trafficking efforts, disability advocacy, migration policies, and fundamental human rights. The program attracts individuals from diverse academic fields and work experiences, spanning education, political science, criminal justice, sociology, gender studies, African American studies, and social justice movements, among others.
You'll be able to customize your studies to align with your specific human rights and social justice priorities. Past and present students have examined subjects including racial equity, educational access, disability rights, indigenous sovereignty, animal welfare, and combating human trafficking. Some have concentrated on geographical areas like the Middle East, Central Europe, East Africa, or Central America. Graduates often enter fields such as human rights advocacy, nonprofit work, social justice initiatives, academic research, and government policy development.
