The Psychology PhD program delivers comprehensive understanding of fundamental psychological concepts along with hands-on training in applying these principles to address real-world challenges in personal relationships, careers, and learning environments. Required coursework encompasses key disciplines recognized as vital for doctoral education, spanning biological, social, cognitive, and individual aspects of human behavior, plus psychological history. Students can specialize in these focus areas: developmental psychology applications, clinical psychology practice, cognitive and behavioral neuroscience studies, human factors and applied cognition research, or industrial-organizational psychology.

Qualification Requirements
For the PhD with a concentration in applied developmental psychology, at least 15 credits in psychology, including statistics and a laboratory course in experimental psychology, are required.
The GRE exam is optional.
The goals statement should be about 2-3 single-spaced pages articulating: A) your training/education history and preparation for graduate school, B) research and/or clinical experience to date relevant to the degree/concentration being pursued, C) your professional goals and how the degree (and the GMU program) fits into those goals, D) reasons/motivation for seeking the degree, and E) 1-2 core, full-time, faculty members in the concentration/program that you are interested in working with as a potential faculty advisor, and why such a person(s) are a good fit with you goals/interests.
