George Mason University's PPE program enables students to explore interdisciplinary subjects combining philosophy, political science, and economics. This educational model, first established at Oxford nearly 100 years ago, has seen increasing popularity across the United States with expanding program offerings. Mason's initiative—a collaborative effort between the Philosophy Department, Economics Department, and Schar School of Policy and Government—stands as the metro DC region's inaugural PPE program.
Participants in Mason's PPE undertake a rigorous academic journey. Following introductory exposure to all three fields, the curriculum focuses on specially designed or adapted courses that examine intersections between philosophy, political science, and economics through an interdisciplinary lens. The program concludes with an integrative capstone course synthesizing knowledge gained throughout the curriculum.
