A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a certified healthcare professional with specialized education and clinical training in using ultrasound technology for diagnostic purposes. Their authorized practice encompasses procedures allowed by regulations, where they've proven expertise through accredited training and certification. The curriculum covers sonographic applications in gynecology, obstetrics, abdominal imaging, surface structures, and vascular studies.
Launched in 1984, the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program holds accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Program graduates fulfill the educational criteria specified in Prerequisites 1, 2, and 3A of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
Following eighteen months of intensive, skill-focused training combining classroom learning, lab work, and clinical rotations, students earn a Certificate of Achievement and can pursue an Associate in Science degree. Graduates qualify to sit for certification examinations administered by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
