The Child Development Program offers academic and vocational training to equip students for careers as early childhood educators across various settings. The curriculum and certifications align with entry-level qualifications for chosen career paths and fulfill the criteria for obtaining a California Child Development Permit, enabling graduates to work as Assistant Teachers, Associate Teachers, Teachers, Master Teachers, or Site Supervisors in state-licensed or publicly funded childcare programs. Those aiming to transfer to a four-year university in child development or a related field may apply certain units toward lower-division major requirements or pursue an AS-T in Early Childhood Education. Consult a Foothill counselor for details. Graduates will gain expertise in addressing the needs and developmental influences of children from infancy through middle childhood, ensuring high-quality care and education.
Students will develop a strong grasp of ethical standards and professional conduct, aligning with the National Association for the Education of Young Children's Code of Ethical Conduct, to enhance their dedication to early childhood education.
This program provides both academic and vocational preparation for aspiring early childhood educators in diverse environments. The coursework and certifications meet professional standards for employment in early childhood programs. Students interested in fields like human development, child psychology, social work, or primary education should consult a counselor to understand transfer requirements for specific four-year institutions.
