Florida State University's Sport Psychology graduate programs equip you with a comprehensive foundation in theoretical knowledge and research methodologies within the field.
You'll explore the scientific principles behind athlete psychology, focusing on both performance enhancement and well-being. The program provides access to research teams, skill development opportunities, and hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies in our Sport Psychology Laboratory. Discover more about our laboratory facilities here.
While emphasizing scientific rigor, our curriculum also includes optional practical applications where you can assist athletes in developing mental skills for improved performance and personal welfare. Through established partnerships, students gain real-world experience working with various athletic organizations, from recreational to semi-professional levels. Those pursuing Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) credentials receive dedicated mentorship during their applied work.
Master's candidates typically complete 40-80 hours of direct athlete interaction across two years (200 required for CMPC certification), along with 20 mentorship hours (50 needed for CMPC). Doctoral students generally accumulate more experience. Please note our mentorship program doesn't confer licensure, meaning graduates cannot use the 'sport psychologist' title.
Our scientifically rigorous training prepares graduates for successful careers in academia and various performance sectors worldwide. Alumni currently contribute to mental performance enhancement across diverse environments, including collegiate and professional sports organizations as well as military settings.
