The interdisciplinary Materials Science and Engineering program offers a Master of Science degree in MS&E. Applicants from diverse academic backgrounds are welcome, including various engineering fields (such as biomedical, civil, chemical, environmental, industrial, materials science, mechanical), applied mathematics, chemistry, geology, and physics. Faculty involved in the program come from multiple departments: Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Scientific Computing.
Degree candidates register through MS&E while taking courses across participating departments. The program structure includes foundational core classes, specialized coursework, and a thesis requirement. Core curriculum ensures all students gain fundamental materials science knowledge regardless of their original discipline.
