Florida State University's Graduate Art Therapy program provides both Master of Science in Art Therapy and Doctor of Philosophy in Art Education degrees with an Art Therapy specialization. The Master's program delivers comprehensive training in art therapy theory and methods, complemented by three intensive practicum placements in clinical and community environments. Through research-based instruction, the program cultivates culturally aware professionals skilled in harnessing visual arts and therapeutic connections to enhance individual and collective wellbeing. Social justice and transformative change through art form the core philosophy that shapes our entire curriculum. In 2019, the Art Therapy program earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health and Education Programs (CAAHEP). Graduates earn a Master of Science in Art Therapy, emerging as proficient entry-level practitioners with expertise in knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors. FSU's groundbreaking program blends multiple theoretical approaches and evidence-based methods to develop culturally competent professionals who effectively utilize artistic expression and therapeutic alliances to advance personal and societal health.
