Participants develop core competencies in technical theater through both classroom instruction and hands-on practice. The curriculum offers diverse specialization options, from production oversight to stage equipment engineering, covering subjects like digital drafting, structural engineering, stage mechanics, electrical systems, mechanical engineering, production coordination, automation systems, workplace safety, and beyond.

During practical productions, students assume leadership positions like Assistant TD, Technical Director, or production coordinator, refining abilities in team communication, timeline management, resource allocation, and crew supervision. They also develop proficiency in metalwork, woodcraft, fluid systems, electrical systems, technical drafting, and digital tools through immersive learning. Every MFA candidate undertakes multiple production assignments tailored to their professional goals during their FSU tenure.
