The department provides Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in philosophy. Our faculty members specialize in various fields, including ancient philosophy, action theory, ethics, metaphysics, political philosophy, philosophy of mind and cognitive science, and philosophy of science.
Financial support is offered through fellowships and assistantships for 55-60 graduate students, covering both in-state and out-of-state tuition. Philosophy students often excel in securing University fellowships. Around ten new assistantships are awarded annually, with additional opportunities specifically for minority students.
The department hosts visiting speakers, conferences, and has published the journal Social Theory and Practice since 1970. These initiatives help graduate students engage with the professional community. Teaching opportunities during studies provide valuable experience for academic careers. Our alumni consistently achieve success in securing positions at colleges and universities.
