The Department of Biological Science offers graduate programs across three specialized fields (Ecology and Evolution, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Neuroscience), featuring two degree options per field (PhD and Thesis-Based Masters) alongside a shared Course-Based Masters track available in all disciplines.
Applicants must select both a specific discipline and degree pathway when submitting their graduate application, adhering to the detailed guidelines provided on each discipline's webpage (listed below). Candidates should complete the standard graduate application process available here. Within the Biological Science Supplemental Application (found in your Application Checklist), applicants must specify their chosen discipline and preferred faculty advisors. Failure to submit this supplemental application will result in automatic disqualification from the admission process. For students considering faculty members spanning multiple disciplines, we recommend either consulting with potential advisors for selection guidance or basing the decision on professional aspirations and academic objectives.
Our Course-based Master's program provides an intensive, customizable curriculum focused on coursework, designed to align with each student's academic interests and professional ambitions. This pathway is ideal for individuals seeking to strengthen or broaden their biological expertise before applying to professional schools, as well as those aiming to enhance their career prospects within biological sciences.
