FSU Panama City's nationally accredited doctoral nurse anesthesia program is an intensive 36-month course that concentrates on comprehensive patient care throughout surgical procedures across diverse healthcare environments. The program's curriculum emphasizes critical reasoning, effective communication, and professional conduct while performing various anesthetic methods, with particular focus on analytical abilities, assessment proficiency, and decisive judgment in all anesthesia-related scenarios.
Since 2021, Florida State University has received authorization from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA) to provide the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) degree. DNAP graduates will earn a doctoral qualification, become specialists in evidence-based anesthesia practices, qualify for the CRNA certification examination, and gain essential expertise in patient safety, personalized perianesthetic care, analytical reasoning, and professional communication skills.
The DNAP curriculum structure was designed to meet COA's established standards while incorporating supplementary coursework that optimally prepares graduate students to become autonomous advanced practice nurses. The program's sequential course arrangement facilitates the integration of theoretical knowledge with clinical practice, ultimately equipping students with the expertise, technical abilities, and independent critical thinking necessary for CRNA practice. All graduate students will participate in scholarly research projects, culminating in presentations to professional peers at regional and/or national conferences.
