Part of FSU Panama City's Public Safety & Security program, the CSI degree combines analytical and practical skills with foundational theories essential for correctly recognizing, recording, handling, gathering, and examining evidence. Students can complete all coursework either online or through in-person classes.

The mandatory hands-on laboratory sessions occur during summer in intensive one-week (40-hour) formats. In these summer labs, participants engage with actual unsolved cases and simulated crime scene exercises. These sessions teach proper methods for analyzing various types of evidence, including bloodstain patterns, fingerprint processing, bullet path reconstruction, and excavation of human remains. All CSI lab components meet International Association of Identification (IAI) standards for certification training or continuing education credits.
Graduates with a Public Safety and Security: Crime Scene Investigation degree qualify for diverse roles across municipal, state, and national law enforcement organizations, as well as public and private forensic laboratories. Potential career paths encompass positions such as forensic investigator, evidence analyst, lab technician, medical examiner assistant, forensic specialist, evidence custodian, and other related fields.
