The Computer Engineering Bachelor of Science program equips graduates for thriving careers in this multidisciplinary field. Computer Engineering fuels advancements across diverse sectors, from ubiquitous computing to intelligent energy grids. Professionals in this field find opportunities with hardware manufacturers, defense firms, telecommunications companies, financial institutions, healthcare organizations, and tech consultancies. These engineers may specialize in hardware development, software creation, or hybrid roles combining both skill sets. While rooted in electrical engineering and computer science fundamentals, computer engineering represents a distinct discipline with unique applications. The ECE Department delivers comprehensive technical training, culminating in an intensive, collaborative capstone project. Computer engineering students master essential electrical engineering concepts while studying specialized computer science and CpE coursework. Key focus areas encompass network systems, digital security, embedded technologies, electronic devices, automated design processes, large-scale data analysis, and artificial intelligence. Alumni pursue careers at organizations ranging from global corporations to innovative startups, with some opting for advanced degrees to enter academia or research, while others transition into leadership, executive, or entrepreneurial roles.

Qualification Requirements

An applicant who desires admission as a first year in college student must be graduated from a regionally accredited high school (or comparable international institution). All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations. If the transcript/academic record does not indicate the degree earned and date the degree was awarded, separate proof of degree is required. We require freshman applicants to submit at least one ACT and/or SAT test score to be considered for admission. Florida State does not require the optional ACT writing score or the optional SAT essay. We encourage applicants to take both the ACT and SAT, and to attempt each exam more than one time to earn the highest possible score.
