Biomedical engineering applies chemical and other engineering principles to large-scale living organisms, particularly humans. As one of the newest chemical engineering sub-disciplines, this rapidly advancing field involves chemical engineers, biochemists, physicians, and healthcare professionals. Research and development occur at universities, teaching hospitals, and private companies, focusing on creating new materials and products to enhance or restore bodily form and function. Growing interest in this field makes the Biomedical Engineering BS degree suitable for students pursuing careers in medicine, biotechnological patent law, or biomedical product sales and services. The three majors within the BS-BME degree enable students to specialize in key areas of biomedical engineering.
The Biomedical Engineering BS degree offers three majors:
Cell & Bioprocess Engineering, Biomaterials & Biopolymers Engineering, and Imaging & Signal Processing Engineering. Consult an advisor for specific requirements for these three major options.
