The printmaking and book arts program merges conventional and modern techniques in a non-toxic studio environment, offering students a vibrant learning platform for contemporary printmaking.
The curriculum covers intaglio, relief, screen printing, and book arts. Introductory courses establish a strong technical foundation, while intermediate and advanced classes encourage hybrid, experimental, collaborative, and digital approaches. All instruction and workspaces adhere to non-toxic, safety-conscious practices without sacrificing artistic excellence.
Facilities are housed in the Kellogg Research Building (KRB). The screen printing studio features personal workstations, assorted screens, a vacuum exposure unit, and washout sink. The relief/etching area boasts two Takach and two Brand presses, plus a dedicated plate preparation room with ferric acid tanks. A NuArc exposure unit supports photo etching processes. The digital lab provides workstations, printing services, and platemaking via Xante equipment. The book arts room contains two refurbished letterpress proof presses (currently being fully restored) and bookbinding tools. An adjacent classroom space facilitates discussions and meetings.
