The Department of Religion at Florida State University ranks among the most prominent in the southeastern United States, boasting Florida's most comprehensive graduate program in religious studies. Dedicated to academic exploration of religious traditions and phenomena within diverse cultural settings, the department structures its curriculum into four primary concentrations: American Religious History, History and Ethnography of Religions, Religions of Western Antiquity, and Religion, Ethics, and Philosophy. Qualified religion majors can pursue honors coursework during their junior and/or senior years. Students may opt for a combined major in Religion and Classics, and the department collaborates with FSU's interdisciplinary programs in African American Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, Humanities, International Affairs, Middle Eastern Studies, and Women's Studies.

Freshman admission is a holistic and selective process, and no single criterion guarantees admission. Rather, we consider all the documentation you submit, and we carefully review your academic record and test scores to ensure that you are prepared for the rigorous curriculum you will encounter at Florida State University.

The courses listed below represent the minimum required for admission consideration:

4 English courses, at least three with substantial writing requirements

4 mathematics courses at the Algebra I level and higher

3 natural science courses, at least two with laboratory experience

3 social science courses

2 sequential courses of a world language or American Sign Language

2 elective courses, preferably in the above subject areas

The following are the minimum scores required for admission to the University, although some departments require higher scores at the graduate level:
