The Master of Arts in Architecture is a 36-credit post-professional program offering advanced study in three key domains: theoretical frameworks, applied research, and specialized practice topics. Students tailor their academic journey through coursework and independent projects, exploring diverse fields such as design philosophy and history, digital tools and visualization techniques, mapping, sustainable technologies, neuroarchitecture, furniture and industrial design, and innovative approaches to sustainable development. These focus areas align with FIU SOA's curriculum strengths, facilitating interdisciplinary research that leverages faculty expertise.
Specialization Paths
Participants can opt for either studio-intensive or non-studio academic tracks. Both formats accommodate the following specialization options:
Healthcare Design Pathway: Open to graduates from accredited architecture programs who meet university standards, this 36-credit curriculum equips students for research, teaching, and advanced healthcare design studies. While typically completed in one year of full-time residency, part-time enrollment may be approved by program faculty.
Theoretical Investigations: Design aesthetics and political dimensions, historical perspectives and philosophical foundations.
Practical Research Applications: Digital tools and visual representation, geographic mapping with GIS certification potential, sustainable technologies, product and industrial design, cognitive science in architecture, cutting-edge design methodologies.
Contemporary Design Challenges.
