Our English Bachelor's program provides specialized courses in literature, writing and rhetoric, creative writing, and linguistics. Graduates can advance to master's or doctoral studies or embark on careers in writing, education, journalism, and beyond.
The English major equips students with critical reading skills, creative thinking, clear writing, and effective communication. Their studies offer both a worldview and foundational knowledge. All majors complete a 12-credit core before choosing a specialization: Literature, Writing and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, or Linguistics. By engaging with important texts through reading, discussion, and writing, students sharpen their analytical skills for fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction while gaining cultural insights that broaden their perspectives. FIU English graduates pursue diverse paths in editing, publishing, education, technical writing, law, management, IT, and advanced studies in English, Linguistics, and related fields. An English degree lays the groundwork for graduate studies in English or law school, while also opening doors to careers demanding strong writing and analytical abilities.
