The Dual Romance Languages Major enables students to undertake in-depth studies in two Romance languages: French, Spanish, and/or Italian. This 18-credit program requires nine advanced courses for each chosen language. Students who wish to learn more should reach out to the Undergraduate Coordinator or relevant department chairs for details and academic advising. The University of Pennsylvania's Department of Romance Languages provides instruction in French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan, covering language, literature, and cultural studies at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergraduate offerings span from introductory language classes to specialized seminars on French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese cultures, catering to majors and other interested learners. At the graduate level (French, Italian, and Hispanic Studies), the curriculum explores the cultural output of France, Italy, Spain, Latin America, and other historically influenced regions. Through intimate seminar settings, graduate students examine these cultural expressions using diverse critical frameworks, including cultural studies, postcolonial theory, and philosophy. The Department's strong track record in career placement reflects its dedication to both scholarly growth and professional development for graduate students.
