Oceanography is a vast, interdisciplinary field dedicated to uncovering the secrets of Earth's oceans, which span 70% of our world. At Florida Tech, oceanography students explore and utilize biology, chemistry, geology, meteorology, physics, and math to gain deeper insights into marine ecosystems, geophysical fluid dynamics, seabed geology, and beyond.
Whether your goal is to innovate wetland restoration techniques, oversee marine parks and sanctuaries, or unravel phenomena like Red Tide, Florida Tech's oceanography program equips you with essential expertise in marine science, engineering, and technology.
Those pursuing an oceanography degree at Florida Tech can specialize in one of five distinct areas: biological oceanography, chemical oceanography, coastal zone management, marine environmental science, or physical oceanography.
A highlight of the first-year experience in Florida Tech's oceanography program is the Whole Earth Course, which immerses students in understanding Earth as an interconnected system. Senior students hone their skills through advanced electives, specialized labs, and a capstone research project on a topic of their choice.
