Florida Tech's College of Science is celebrated for academic programs that blend foundational knowledge with hands-on experience, merging research with real-world implementation. Many incoming freshmen haven't finalized their degree selection, and Florida Tech's general science curriculum provides these science-interested but undecided students with a valuable year to investigate various disciplines before committing to a specific major.
This general science pathway features rigorous coursework in biology, chemistry, and calculus (with physics as an elective), ensuring students remain aligned with prerequisite courses regardless of their eventual degree choice. Additionally, it enables students to discover their aptitudes and passions across diverse fields including mathematics, chemistry, marine biology, premedical studies, or astronomy and astrophysics.
A Florida Tech education delivers individualized mentorship, a cross-disciplinary academic setting, and chances for undergraduate research and scholarly publication. Participation in the general science program also involves experiential learning—actual fieldwork conducted in nearby natural environments like the estuarine systems of the Indian River Lagoon and the marine ecosystems of the Atlantic Ocean.
