Comparative Studies examines important topics by utilizing diverse methods from the humanities, arts, and social sciences. The Ph.D. program in Comparative Studies emphasizes advanced interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research, requiring investigation of subjects across two or more conventional academic fields (such as political science paired with English literature, anthropology combined with history, or art history integrated with literature and communication). Students can specialize in one of these focus areas: Culture, Society and Politics; Cultures, Languages and Literatures; Design, Aesthetics and the Arts; Fine and Performing Arts; or Public Intellectuals. Note that the Fine and Performing Arts and Public Intellectuals specializations are temporarily unavailable for new applicants.
