Chemistry serves as the foundational science, integrating aspects of physics, biology, and mathematics while maintaining its distinct principles. The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department provides four undergraduate chemistry degree options (B.A., B.S.), each tailored to align with students' specific academic goals. Additionally, the department features two specialized certificate programs: the Pharmaceutical Technology Certificate Program (PTCP) and the Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program in Chemistry (PREPChem) Certificate. For graduate studies, students can pursue a Master of Science in Chemistry (M.S.) or a Master of Science in Teaching (M.S.T.). The department also offers a doctoral program leading to a Ph.D. in Chemistry.

Students who meet the Florida Board of Governors requirements for college readiness through SAT or ACT section scores in Verbal/Reading and English sections may be academically qualified for admission to FAU and exempt from English Proficiency exams. Students MUST meet the minimum qualifications for each section score of at least one test: SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing Score - 490 ACT Section Scores Reading – 19 English – 17 Students who do not meet the above score threshold, can provide proof of English Proficiency by meeting ONE of the following requirements: Completion of at least three years of secondary education from a high school based in the United States or abroad with full curriculum of instruction in English.
