The Industrial Engineering PhD program caters to individuals aiming for academic roles or seeking advanced expertise in the discipline. Candidates must complete at least forty-five semester hours post-bachelor's degree (not counting master's thesis credits) or thirty-three hours beyond a master's degree.
Students holding a master's in industrial engineering or a related field typically fulfill twelve of these forty-five hours. The remaining requirements include nine hours of graded coursework plus twenty-four hours of dissertation research. Post-master's coursework involves: 1) eighteen hours of core breadth courses, and 2) six or more hours of depth courses as specified by the doctoral committee. Residency and completion timelines vary by institution. Participants must sustain a 3.4 GPA throughout the program and satisfy departmental publication standards prior to their dissertation defense.
