The FDU CMHC program, accredited by CACREP, develops skilled counseling professionals who make meaningful contributions to society as mental health counselors, program leaders, researchers, and policy influencers at various levels. Program alumni find employment in diverse environments such as community organizations, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, addiction treatment centers, child welfare services, and private practices. The curriculum equips students with essential clinical competencies including assessment interviews, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions, and group facilitation. Students examine human development theories and counseling approaches while discovering potential career specializations like vocational counseling, addiction treatment, family therapy, and program development. The program additionally covers research methodologies, evaluation strategies, and current industry challenges like healthcare financing and resource limitations. Distinct from other New Jersey programs, our curriculum includes specialized coursework in Psychopharmacology, Sexual Issues Counseling, and Counseling Supervision. Graduates emerge ready to establish their professional identity while collaborating with healthcare teams to serve community needs.
