The Juris Doctor/Doctor of Philosophy (JD/PhD) program is jointly offered by Emory Law and the Graduate Division of Religion, which operates under the Laney Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Students must fulfill 79 credit hours (equivalent to five semesters) at the law school. Additionally, they must complete 36 credit hours (three semesters) in the Graduate School, plus two extra semesters dedicated to PhD examinations and developing/dissertation proposal defense. After meeting core requirements, each JD/PhD student crafts a personalized curriculum of courses and research projects, subject to approval by their graduate advisor. Emory Law students have combined their JD with PhD studies across various disciplines such as Philosophy, Political Science, Economics, and Women's Studies.
All post-secondary education will include a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, as well as post-baccalaureate degrees and other coursework not undertaken for a degree.
