This program mainly focuses on equipping secondary and post-secondary educators across diverse environments while also laying the groundwork for doctoral pursuits. Core coursework counts toward ESL state endorsement. TESL graduates can pursue careers such as:Teaching English as a Second Language domestically and internationally
K-12 positions in multilingual schools
Faculty roles at community colleges and universities
TESL-certified professionals enjoy strong global demand, particularly in nations like China, Taiwan, South Korea, Poland, France, and numerous others.All candidates must show proficiency in reading a foreign language relevant to their studies, equivalent to one year of college-level instruction. This can be proven through coursework, standardized exams, or department-arranged testing. Alternatively, students may fulfill this requirement by passing ENGL 530 (Old English) with at least a 3.0 grade.We strongly recommend undertaking a supervised ESL teaching practicum, which involves:Shadowing experienced instructors;
Developing, delivering, and evaluating lesson materials; and
Conducting structured self-assessments (typically through video recordings).
The practicum usually requires documenting classroom activities, methods, and interactions through journaling.
You must show that you graduated from high school or secondary school with the equivalent of a "C" grade (2.0) or higher.
You must provide original, official transcripts for all high school, college, and university coursework from both inside and outside of the U.S.
