The aging population is recognized as one of the most impactful societal changes in the 21st century. From 2010 onward, the U.S. demographic segment over 65 years old has expanded more rapidly than any other age category. Consequently, the CDC's Healthy People 2020 program incorporates goals to boost the number of healthcare professionals holding geriatric certifications. Those earning the Gerokinesiology Certification undergo an interdisciplinary program spanning Aging Studies, Biology, Therapeutic Recreation, and Exercise Science, gaining holistic knowledge about aging. Participants acquire skills to create, implement, and oversee fitness regimens tailored to older adults, a population where chronic conditions and physical limitations are common.
